Suspended belief

Antique writing slope, acrylic sheet, painted MDF
(approx. 136x35x45cm), 2010

From 'A Sinking Feeling' at the Dovecote Gallery, Valentines Mansion with Kathy Taylor.
Involving research into the history of the house and that of The Valentine, an East Indiaman ship, which came to grief on rocks in a violent storm in the channel Isles on its return voyage from India in 1779.
Sculpture initially made in response to historic events, experimenting with how associations are stirred through the materiality of objects whilst questioning historical authenticity by echoing the language of traditional museum display.
